Episode nine : maneater
This week we cover Maneater with our friend, Alexandra Freedman Smith, who is a fellow New Mexican and friend from childhood. This song brings up everything from Flashdance and feminism to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and absinthe. Most importantly, this song introduces us to a new musical favorite, Saxsquatch, and reminds us that John Oates has an amazing sense of humor.
This week we sipped a version of the Maneater Cocktail (Naomi and Alex took a slight left turn, see below…)
Ingredients:
1/2 oz. Southern Comfort®
2 dashes Orange bitters
1 1/2 oz. Brandy
3 oz. Ice (crushed)
Naomi and Alex are having the Dr. Funk from Smuggler’s Cove in SF
2 1/4 oz. unaged pot still black rum (Goslings is acceptable, but add a little pot still Pusser's for character)
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1/2 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. demerara syrup
1/4 oz. herbsaint (Absinthe Refined used)
1/4 oz. grenadine
1 oz. club soda
Combine all ingredients except soda with ice in a shaker. Shake and strain into a double Old Fashioned glass packed with crushed ice. Top with soda and garnish with pineapple leaves and lime slices.
